Inspiring Young Scientists at Science Castle Singapore 2026
At Accelerated Materials, one of the most rewarding parts of what we do is inspiring the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators.
Our Chief AI Officer, Dr Mohammed Jeraal, was recently invited by Leave a Nest Singapore Pte. Ltd. to serve as a judge at the Science Castle Singapore 2026, an incredible event showcasing young scientific talent from across the region. Together with the other judges, the main prize was awarded to:
P-36 – Swiftlet Guano as Fertiliser Alternative by Vision Primary School Sandakan, Sabah, Malaysia.
Their project explored using swiftlet guano (bird droppings) as a sustainable alternative to conventional fertilisers, which often contribute to harmful chemical runoff into nearby rivers and aquatic ecosystems.
What made this team even more impressive? They were the only primary school group competing against secondary school students. Their presentation was eloquent, exceptionally well-rehearsed, and full of genuine passion for science and sustainability.
We also awarded a special Accelerated Materials prize to School of Science and Technology, Singapore:
P-11 – Investigation of the rotational dynamics of the Milky Way by measuring its radial velocity through the hydrogen line using a parabolic grid dish antenna.
A brilliantly executed project demonstrating a deep understanding of complex scientific concepts through a simple but highly effective experimental setup.
As part of the award, the student team will be joining us at our lab for a behind-the-scenes experience exploring how we use AI, robotics, and automation to accelerate scientific discovery.
The future of science is in very good hands.
